WHY LOOK AT ANIMALS? | ΕΜΣΤ
Why Look at Animals? is a major exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary Art Αthens (ΕΜΣΤ) curated by its artistic director, Katerina Gregos, which examines the evolving relationship between humans and animals in contemporary art, taking John Berger’s seminal 1977 essay as its point of departure.
Bringing together works by more than 60 international artists across photography, painting, sculpture, film and installation, it explores themes of domestication, exploitation, empathy, extinction and the ethical implications of human dominance over the natural world.
With Pickles PR, I supported the museum with strategic press outreach, working closely with ΕΜΣΤ to articulate clear, accessible narratives around its curatorial themes. My role focused on positioning the exhibition programme within wider cultural and public debates, facilitating international media engagement and encouraging in-depth coverage.
Through targeted press relations, I helped ensure sustained critical attention and broad public visibility with the aim to support meaningful audience engagement and to connect the exhibition to ongoing conversations about ethics, ecology and our shared responsibility toward the non-human world.
